It has been awhile since my last post here, those close to me would already know why this blog went quiet.
For months my Wife was in the latter stages of pregnancy, so for obvious reasons some things had to change, somethings are not as easy to access anymore.
Recently my Wife gave birth to our second child.
Now we have a new Child and direction, keep an eye on both this blog and Lai-Jenkins Creations.
This project started out as a way to refocus, while I have been living in a Malaysia, my wife, my ison and I have been living most in just one room. Which is quite common here.
For myself this has been quite a culture shock, also given that many people outside my family here can not understand English or in a lot of cases “My English” it has often been quite challenging. The idea for this project was inspired by my and my family’s current living situation as realized quickly that there are many people the World over do not even have a room as we do.
I started with the idea of living in a box, seeing I only had myself on hand I shot a series of photos of me living in a box, this was just to kick start the project.
These are a couple of the visual studies I have done based on the photo’s, at the moment I am looking at the playful aspect of living in a box, as I go it is becoming more apparent I also have to look at the more serious issues and the social commentary these and further works will bring up.
when I post another update I will include a few reference links as well as more examples, at this point in time the project has only really just begun.
Balancing life, work and art is something I am still trying to master. I have a work underway, its coming along slowly. I work on it when I have the chance. Not all off days is it possible to work on my arts, sometimes I’m recovering from the last shift before I prepare of the next the following day. Sometimes very important events demand my attention, nether the less I have managed to keep this work going and pick up a few more bits and pieces for later.
Currently I do not have a title for the work, (typical of my way of working).
This work was started in August I’m still working on when I have the time as mentioned above. So it is already one of my longest time-framed works to date as I am making sure I do not drop my art practice. Yes I am working colour into this work too (have to wait for an update :P)
